The mechanical properties of a cells surrounding environment, or extra cellular matrix (ECM), play a crucial role in cellular behavior. For example, it has been shown that cells tend to spread more on rigid substrates [1, 2] and that motile cells move from regions of low substrate rigidity to regions of high substrate rigidity .
