Denys J Mead

Denys Mead is an Emeritus Professor of Structural Dynamics of the University of Southampton, UK. His career began with seven years in the UK aircraft industry during which he did part-time study to obtain his first professional qualifications. After two years of post-graduate study at the College of Aeronautics, Cranfield (UK), he joined Professor EJ Richards’ staff in 1952 at the Department of Aeronautics, University of Southampton. He was closely involved in the formation of Southampton’s Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) in 1963 and served in both the Aeronautics Department and ISVR until his formal retirement in 1991. He has contributed to numerous undergraduate courses on aircraft structures and aero-elasticity, and to both post-graduate and post-experience courses in noise and vibration in the UK, USA, and elsewhere.
